Research

The Institute engages in research on various themes in the broader area of human development, with the aim of contributing to academic analysis as well as informing policy and practice.

The broad research themes on which the Institute engages include:

  • Security and Vulnerability
  • Governance and Institutions

The Institute has been actively involved in the evaluation of development policies and programmes of the Central and State Governments. It has also undertaken the preparation and coordination of several State Development Reports as well as Human Development Reports. All these efforts have helped the Institute gain valuable insights and experience in policy research and dialogues. IHD has completed about 300 research projects, including both conceptual and empirical ones. The empirical studies undertaken by it have been based on both secondary as well as primary data. In fact, the Institute has the experience of collecting primary data in most of the states of India, including remote areas like the North-east and the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Growth and Employment

Employment is key  to inclusive growth. The Institute has  expanded  its work to make growth inclusive, employment-intensive and sustainable while taking into account the needs and constraints of globalization.  Read more…
